Doha: KSQ Kicks Off First Ever Cricket Tournament in Style

Doha, Jan 19: Karnataka Sangha Qatar (KSQ) achieved another milestone on Monday January 18, when its first ever floodlit cricket tournament was kicked off at 7 pm. The tournament had been advanced due to unavoidable circumstances. All the participating teams were present at the opening ceremony.
Chidananda Naik of M Palonji Qatar, ICC President, K M Verghese, and Sanauallah, managing director of Gulf Lights, were the guests of the evening. The ladies wing of KSQ honoured the guests by presenting flower bouquets.
The guests handed over mementoes to the captains of all the participating teams.
KSQ president, Arun Kumar, welcomed the gathering. Chidananda Naik released the brochure containing full details of the tournament. Milan Arun conducted the oath-taking ceremony, and the vice-president of KSQ, Mannagi, announced the fixtures of the tournament.
A wonderful march past held thereafter, was led by the tournament coordinator, Dr Sanjay, and balloons were released into the sky by all the team captains.
The progamme was compered by dynamic Ujwala Shashi Kiran, while sports secretary, Deepak Shetty, proposed vote of thanks. He thanked all the sponsors and those who have extended support for the tournament, apart from the media, for covering the event.
The tournament was inaugurated by the guest of the evening, Chidananda Naik.
The first match of the tournament was played between Qalco V/S CBQ.
After having won the toss, CBQ elected to bat first. The team scored 131 runs in the allotted 12 overs, loosing four wickets. In reply, Qalco could score only 120 runs for the loss of five wickets. Faisal of CBQ was declared the man of the match for scoring 55 runs, in addition to taking a wicket.
The second match was played between Lagaan and Euro Spare Parts.
Lagaan won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 97 runs in 12 overs, loosing eight wickets in the bargain. Batting second, Euro Spare Parts could score only 83 runs. Naveed of Euro Spare Parts was declared the man of the match for scoring 42 runs and taking two wickets.
