Bangalore: Love Jehad – HC Grants Six Weeks for Filing Final Report
Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)
Bangalore, Jan 20: A division bench of the state High Court (HC), on Tuesday January 19, granted a further six weeks’ time to the state police department, for filing a final report on the alleged ‘Love Jehad’ activities in the state.
It may be recalled that the High Court, while taking up the case of the elopement of a girl from Chamarajanagar with a Muslim boy and marrying him later, had come across the allegation of ‘Love Jehad’. The girl’s parents had alleged that the girl had been enticed into marrying the boy with the specific purpose of converting her into Islam in centres specifically set up in Kerala for the purpose.
A team led by the DIG of Criminal Investigation Department, Malini Krishnamurty, formed to investigate the truth behind the prevalence of ‘Love Jehad’, had submitted its interim report to the HC in November last. At that time, it had sought two months time for submitting a final report. The time granted to the team expired on Tuesday. Through an affidavit, the team requested for additional time for filing the final report. The division bench, comprising Justice Sridhar Rao and Justice Ravi Malimath, allowed a time of six weeks to the team.
