Greek basketball season ends due to coronavirus outbreak


Athens, May 22 (IANS): The Greek basketball league has announced that it will end the 2019/2020 season due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The decision was made at a general assembly of the clubs on Thursday, which also crowned Panathinaikos as champions for the season, reports Xinhua news agency.

Panathinaikos, who led the table, have been declared champions after a unanimous vote. They finished two points ahead of second-placed AEK Athens.

Meanwhile, two Thessaloniki clubs, Aris and PAOK, will not be relegated to the second division despite finishing in the bottom two.

More than 3.2 lakh people have lost their lives so far due to COVID-19 pandemic across the world.
