5 migrants killed in separate incidents in UP


Mirzapur (UP), May 22 (IANS): Five migrants were killed in two separate incidents on Friday in Uttar Pradesh.

In Mirzapur, three migrants were run over by a speeding truck while they were sleeping on the roadside while two migrant workers were killed when a mini-truck, they were travelling in, hit an electric pole and overturned in Bulandshahr.

Eighteen workers have been injured in the Bulandshahr incident and have been admitted to the district hospital. These workers were travelling from Surat to Bijnor district in UP.

According to reports, in the Mirzapur incident, the migrants were travelling in a car from Delhi to Bihar. On the way, they stopped the car and went to sleep on the roadside. A truck coming from the opposite side ran over them when its steering wheel failed.

While three passengers died on the spot, the others were critically injured and have been admitted to the BHU hospital in Varanasi.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the three deceased and has asked officials to ensure treatment of the injured. He has also asked officials to make arrangements for sending the bodies to Bihar.

All the bodies in both the incidents have been sent for post mortem.
