COVID-19: 786 more test positive in TN


Chennai, May 22 (IANS): As many as 786 more persons tested positive for coronavirus over the past 24 hours in Tamil Nadu even as four Covid-19 patients succumbed to the disease to take the state's death toll to 94, the Health Department said on Friday.

According to an official statement issued here, the new cases included 92 persons who had arrived in Tamil Nadu from other states and countries. The total tally now in the state is 14,753.

As many as 846 patients were cured and discharged on Friday, taking the total to 7,128. The total number of active cases in Tamil Nadu now stands at 7,524.

According to the government, 12,653 more samples were tested, taking to total to over 3.85 lakh till date. Testing of 503 samples is under process.

State capital Chennai continued to record highest 569 infections, taking its total tally to 9,364.

The number of infected children in the age group 0-12 went up to 902.
