COVID-19: Gujarat's total tally 13,273, death toll 802


Gandhinagar, May 22 (IANS): Gujarat's death toll due to novel coronavirus reached 802 on Friday as 29 more patients succumbed to the dreaded virus. With 363 new cases on Friday, Gujarat crossed the 13,000-mark to reach 13,273 corona cases till date.

The trend of increasing number of cases outside three major cities of Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara continued on Friday.

As health authorities carried out 6,410 more tests in the past 24 hours, 363 new corona positive cases were detected, including Ahmedabad with maximum 275 cases and followed by Surat 29, Vadodara 21, Sabarkantha 11, Surendranagar 5, Gir-Somnath 4, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Kutch and Junagadh 3 each, Anand and Mahesana 2 each, and Rajkot and Valsad one each.

Reporting of over 20 deaths daily since May start continued as another 29 more patients succumbed to the dreaded virus on Friday, including 26 in Ahmedabad (17 males, 9 females). Two males from Gandhinagar and one male from Kheda also breathed their last due to corona infection.

A total of 588 people, out of the total 802, have succumbed to the virus in May so far. Till date, of the total deaths, 645 people died in Ahmedabad alone (over 80 per cent), followed by 57 in Surat, 35 in Vadodara, 11 in Gandhinagar, 9 in Anand, 8 in Bhavnagar, and 6 in Panchmahals.

Out of 6,591 active cases now, the condition of 6,528 patients is stable, whereas 63 critical ones are on ventilators.

Till now, 5,880 patients have been cured and discharged in the state.

Of the total 13,273 cases, Ahmedabad had the maximum 9,724, followed by Surat 1,256, Vadodara 771, Gandhinagar 201, Bhavnagar 114, Banaskantha 99, Mahesana 95, Aravalli 93, Anand 87, Rajkot 83, Mahisagar 77, Panchmahals 72, Patan 69, Kutch 64, Sabarkantha 63, Kheda 57, and Botad 56.

Out of total 1,72,562 RT-PCR tests carried out in Gujarat, 13,273 tested positive and 1,59,289 negative.

As many as 4,31,143 people have been quarantined in the state, including 4,18,744 in home quarantine, 11,665 in government facilities, and 734 in private facilities.
