Mangalore, Jan 22: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), had organized a picketing in front of the office of the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district here, on Thursday January 21.

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), state president, Madhava, who addressed the protestors, demanded for the issuance of ration cards to every family, arresting of the price rise and setting up of the vigilance committees to check malpractices at fair price shops. He also wanted that the food security meeting headed by the district deputy commissioner should be held at least once in three months.

He accused the centre of failing to come to the rescue of about 80% of the population which does not get even a square meal per day, and also 56% of mothers, who suffer from anemia and lack of nutritious food. He put the entire blame for these problems squarely on the faulty policies of the union government.

CPM leaders, Sunil Kumar Bajal, Vasant Achary, J Balakrishna Shetty, Sukumar, Sadashivadas, Bharati, Dayanand Shetty, Munir Katipalla, Shashidhar, Bhaskar Achary, Vasanti, Nonaiah Gowda etc., led the protestors.

The policemen arrested the protestors and released them later.
