Moodbidri, Jan 23: The popular buffalo race of undivided Dakshina Kannada, Koti-Chennaya Jodukare Kambala, was organized here on Saturday January 23.

It was a grand and mega event with the participation of a large number of people and also the highest number of race buffaloes. 

The Kambala was organized by Koti-Chennaya Jodukare Kambala Samithi under the leadership of MLA K Abhayachandra Jain, who is the president of the organizing committee. This is the eighth consecutive year this event has been held.
 
The Kambala was inaugurated in a traditional manner by priests. Fr Vincent D’Souza, parish priest of Alangar Church, Eswara Bhat, managing trustee of Mahalingeswara Temple, and E M Shafi Sab from Puttige Masjid, inaugurated the event. 






























The inaugural programme in the morning and stage programme in the evening were held on a big stage named after Fabian B L Colaco and donated by NRI entrepreneur Ronald Colaco.

The beautiful and natural environment with greenery at the venue of the race in Ontikatte at Veera Rani Abbakka Samskruthi Grama, was crowded with Kambala lovers set to enjoy the traditional culture of Tulunadu.

There were more than a hundred buffaloes in the race. The owners of buffaloes from all over Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts participated in this event. 

The race started with the junior category held till late in the night with the help of flood lights. The audience increased in number at night. 

The ‘pandals’ around the fields were attractively designed with a traditional touch and had separate seating arrangements for women, guests, and also for owners of buffaloes. 

Opposition leader in state legislative assembly S Siddaramaiah, opposition leader in the state legislative council Motamma, and state minister Krishna J Palemar were among the chief guests at the stage programme in the evening.     

K Abhayachandra Jain welcomed everyone at the inaugural function. Kuladeep M Chowta of Chowta Palace, presided over the inaugural function. 

Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, Sri Dharmastala Rural Development Project, and Krushi Vichara Vinimaya Kendra, jointly organized an exhibition on agricultural products and provided information at the venue.
