Gautam Buddh Nagar, May 26 (IANS): A furore has erupted in Greater Noida West over sealing of Supertech Ecovillage-1 society by the district administration after three residents tested positive for coronavirus on Monday night.
The other residents of the society strongly objected to the sealing of the whole society and said that only the flat where new cases have been found should have been sealed, instead of the entire society, after the officials marked the entire society as containment zone.
Soon after the uproar, police reached the spot and pacified the crowd, assuring them that nobody will face any problem, while the society remains completely sealed.
The incident was confirmed by the district police spokesperson. The official said that there are about 8,000 people living in 3,000 flats at Supertech Ecovillage-1 society. As soon as the district administration received the information that a couple living in the society tested positive for COVID-19, the entire society was sealed.
Soon after that there was a commotion in the society as residents objected to the sealing by the officials, saying that others will have to bear the brunt of the curbs.
However, police clarified that those who have railway reservation and air tickets, would face no restrictions.
Inspector-in-charge of Bisarkh police station, Munish Chauhan said, "SDM has sealed the entire society as per rules. The rest of the people living here should not worry about anything. Both the police and the district administration are taking care of the matter that local people are not being disturbed."
"The society will remain sealed till further orders as per rules," he added.
