Mangalore: Bajpe, Angelore Parishes Shine at Milagres Sports Meet

Mangalore, Jan 24: St Joseph’s Parish, Bajpe, emerged overall champions at the inter-parish athletic meet in the men’s division.  The inter-parish meet was held as part of the centenary celebrations of Milagres Church held at Mangala Stadium, on Sunday January 24.

Guardian Angels Parish, Angelore, was the overall champ in the women’s division.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza presented the trophies during the concluding ceremony held on Sunday evening.






























The Bishop lauded the efforts of the sports committee comprising of only laities, for organizing an inter-parish athletic meet in the diocese.  

“The athletic meet has given much needed support to promising youth from the parishes across the diocese to excel in sports and build their self-confidence”, he added.

Milagres parish priest Fr Walter D’Mello, sports committee secretary Dionysius D’Sa, Milagres Pre-university College principal Fr Lawrence D’Souza, sports committee convener Ronald Pinto, centenary celebrations organizing committee chairman Marcel Monteiro, and Milagres parish council vice-president Alwyn Rosario were present on the dais. 

Nearly 400 athletes from 25 parishes across the diocese participated in the athletic meet.

    Congratulations to the overall Athletic champ Men from Bajpe Parish, and Overall Athletic champ Women from Angelore Parish. It is amazing to note that the Christian Parishes are conducting inter Parish Athletic and Sports meet along with Cultural and Bible Quiz. A sport is a very important event conducted to motivate children and teens and young at heart to lead a Healthy and Sporty life. Angelore Parish is now got a new play ground. It is a boon for the young as well as old Parishioners to utilize this ground to build a healthy and vibrant community. This Play ground project was initiated in the year 2003 by Mr. Maxim D'Souza, then the President of CLC (2003-04), with the Concurrence of then the Parish Priest Fr. J. B. D'Souza. The Sports ground Project was almost completed by the active support of Parish Priest Fr. Stany B. Lobo, Parish V.P. Mr. Jossie D’Souza, Youth Committee Chairman Mr. Lancy Monterio, and like minded Parish Council members and the Parishioners. Hats off to Mr. Alwyn D’Silva, a enterprising Parishioner, who pioneered his vision of building this play ground, to encourage and cater to the need of budding Sports Personalities in near future. I hope very soon Angelore Parish will mould and build many Sports Personalities with the help of able, enthusiastic and in house Athletic, Cricket and Volley Ball Coaches.
