COVID-19: Rahul to interact with renowned health professionals

New Delhi, May 27 (IANS): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be interacting with Ashish Jha, a globally recognised public health professional, and Johan Giesecke, well-known Swedish epidemiologist on Wednesday. The talk show would be live streamed at 9 a.m.

"In this episode, the conversations cover a wide range of subjects including the nature of the Covid19 virus, testing strategies, visualising the post-Covid world, the possibility of a virus and many others," Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said in a statement.

This would be the third such interaction in on-going series of dialogues with globally recognised experts on economics, social sciences, healthcare and other areas, on tackling the Covid-19 crisis.

Rahul Gandhi recently spoke with world renowned economist Raghuram Rajan and Nobel Prize Winner, Abhijit Banerjee.

The former Congress president said on Tuesday that lockdown has failed .

"What is interesting about the two conversations is the differing points of view of each of the two experts. Professor Ashish Jha is a supporter of the lockdown theory to slow the spread of the virus, while Professor Johan Giesecke believes lockdowns are of no use and eventually most people in the world will get the virus," Surjewala said in the statement.

Ashish K. Jha has been recently appointed as the Dean of the Brown University School of Public Health.

Johan Giesecke is a Swedish physician and Professor Emeritus at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. Giesecke was born in Stockholm.

In 1979, he defended his thesis, On The Molecular Structure Of Dopaminergic Substances, at the Karolinska Institute.

    Dear Sanjeev Kamath,

I am impressed with your positive reply when there are more comments to ridicule Rahul than the subject.

As every PM, Modi has made the teams and vaccine task force and it is the doctors to take it from there. He cannot leave everything on them. As a PM, he need to speak to experts to take many more steps in support of this team in controlling the virus. He also need to speak to people.

We have not heard anything from him when migrants were in distress or how he is going to build back the economy. Country like NewZealand have come out of Corona Virus because the PM was so interactive with experts and people. She used to address her people everyday at 1 PM and assure them. Here it as completely missing. PM need to act.

Dear Pappu - why are you seeking foreign advice? How many local experts have you consulted on your Zoom conferences? Are Indian academia not good enough for you? Have you stopped consulting our administrative machinery, are the IAS' not up to the mark? What purpose does all these serve? I doubt it will impress even your Wayanad vote base.

Actually this needs to be done by PM and he should take the advice of experts and implement what is best for the country. During this time of crisis his interactions should be continuous both with experts and his people.

Unfortunately PM is not to be seen and the recent developments like migrants issue, increase in COVID-19 cases has put the question mark on his capabilities. We want the PM to be proactive and assure the public when more and more cases of unrest has been reported from various parts of the country.

Rahul is doing the right thing by forcing the PM to be on his toes. PM need to act.

From day one, over 30 world class Indian doctors & scientists are part of Modi’s 24x7 KOVID 19 team, divided into 2 groups.
Niti Aayog member V. K. Paul and PSA to PM K. Vijay Raghavan are leading them to facilitate implementation and administration.
Vaccine Task Force has been set up by Prime Minister’s Office for focused research on corona vaccines and over 35 vaccines are in advanced stages of development / trial.

Sadly, Modiji means only business and is not trumpeting!
