Mangalore: Protest by MCJ Students – Two on Hunger Strike

Mangalore, Jan 25: The students, who are not satisfied by the clarification given by the University authorities after the syndicate meeting of the University on Saturday January 23, that the lecturer against whom they are protesting, will henceforth mend his behaviour, continued with their agitation on Sunday January 24.

Two second year journalism students, Harish Palechar and Gajanan Shenoy, have announced their intention to draw the attention of the University authorities towards their demands, by going on hunger strike from Monday January 25 onwards. They say they are disheartened by the lacklustre response of the University to their demands.

“We will never go back from our protest programme till the lecturer in question, Umeshchandra, is transferred. All the departments in the University know about him, but the authorities are shirking from taking any action, fearing that they might be accused of offences under the atrocity on dalits provisions. Our parents have fully supported us in our endeavours,” they said.

The student leaders claim that other students in the department may also opt to join the two in hunger strike, if they find it necessary later.
