Grand Celebration of Republic Day in Mangalore

Mangalore, Jan 26: “During the last 18 months since the BJP came to power in the state, various development works worth Rs 950 crore have been executed in Dakshina Kannada district, which is a record in itself. The state government’s only agenda is faster development. The ministers, official machinery and other agencies are working hard to achieve allround progress of the state,” said district in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar.
Addressing the district level Republic Day function organized at Nehru Maidan in the city on Tuesday January 26, Palemar said that the government has laid special emphasis on improving the infrastructure facilities to give a boost to development.
Palemar, who hoisted the national flag on the occasion, inspected the guard of honour. A march past of a contingent of the police force, police band, national cadet corps and others, had been organized.
16 students, who have recorded national and international level achievements, were honoured on the occasion. Three state level ‘Krishi Pandita’ awards and six ‘Krishi’ awards were handed over to the concerned.
Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, Ponnuraj, inspector general of police, Gopal Hosur, superintendent of police, Dr A Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, MP, Nalin Kumar, MLA,Yogish Bhat and several other dignitaries were present.
At the function, the deputy commissioner handed over a cheque amounting to Rs 2,63,22,839 to the district in-charge minister, representing the amount collected in the district towards the flood relief fund.
On this occasion, a Vintage Car Rally was flagged off by Palemar. The cars that reminded one of the glorious past, proudly passed through the main roads in the city.
