Strict vigil triggers traffic snarls at Delhi-Ghaziabad border

New Delhi, May 28 (IANS): Heavy vehicular traffic was witnessed at Delhi-Ghaziabad border on Thursday.

Ghaziabad administration sealed the border with Delhi on Monday, due to rise in coronavirus cases in the district. This led to massive traffic congestion at the border.

Traffic congestion was witnessed near Ghazipur on Thursday morning also as the cops maintained strict vigil by checking e-passes of the commuters. Barricading across the road also made the traffic crawl.

People involved in only the essential services are allowed to cross the border. Doctors, police personnel, paramedical staff and media persons are also being allowed to move across the borders with their identity cards.

Earlier, similar situation had occured on May 19 at the Delhi-Gurugram and Delhi-Noida borders as commuters came out in large numbers on the second day of the lockdown-4. The vehicular queue went up to over a kilometre as the police deployed at the border checked the passes and the identity cards of the people travelling.
