See the plight of migrants, give them Rs 7,500: Sonia

New Delhi, May 28 (IANS): Accusing the Narendra Modi government of not listening to the plight of the migrant workers, Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi on Thursday demanded from the government to provide Rs 7,500 to every needy of the country for next six months.

Speaking in the Congress' 'SpeakUp' campaign to take the voice of poor, migrants, small businesses and the middle class to the central government, Sonia Gandhi said, "In the last two months the lockdown to combat the spread of novel coronavirus (Covid-19), has created a huge problem of economic crisis."

"For the first time after independence, people have seen the pain and plight of the migrant workers travelling back bare foot. Their pain and plight was heard by the entire nation but not by the government," she said.

She further said that crores of jobs have been lost, many factories shut, farmers facing issues in selling crops but the government could not assess it.

The Congress leader, who is also the Lok Sabha MP from Rae Bareli, said, "Since day one, all Congress leaders, economists and people from the civil society urged the government that it is time to heal the wounds of the people. But the government is not ready to understand or help the people." she said.

"Thus Congress has decided to raise the voice of the people. We request the central government to give relief to the needy people and provide every family Rs 7,500 for six months. And instantly provide Rs 10,000 into their bank accounts," Sonia Gandhi said.

She also asked the government to arrange for the free and safe travel for the stranded migrant workers and also arrange for their employment.

"Increase employment days to 200 under MGNREGA so that they can get jobs in their villages," she said, adding that the government also needs to help the small and medium scale industries in these tough times so that crores of jobs are saved.

She further said that through social media, the Congress leaders, workers, activists are raising this demand once again. She also urged the people to participate in the campaign and raise the issues being faced by the people.

Munna who is ruling , it's the NDA Nd its their duty. .BJP has completely failed to manage covid 19. The Godi media was talking about biggest airlift of the century and that too for a price. The government should learn from co grass how they had handled the gulf war , that too free of cost and in a dangerous situation. Most of them voted for Acche Din and this is what they are getting. Bhakts are fit only to spread false news.

In neighboring Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s relief package announced by the federal government to mitigate adverse impact of coronavirus on their family budget ten million people belonging to low-income groups will get a Rs12,000 four-month stipend in a lump sum.

In India 'PM Care' should be renamed as 'Don't care' The 20 lakh crores packages bundled together as 'fiscal' and 'Monetary' policy is not reaching any common man.
When the history of the present times of this country is written, not only will it record the failure of the current PM Modi regime in managing a crisis but will acknowledge the struggles of common people, the laborers, children and women who covered hundreds of kilometres on foot to return home in the absence of any help from the government.
Whether it was demonetization, GST implementation or the national lock-down, the prime minister and his advisors Knee-Jerk decision-making has cost India dear.
Our vibrant demography is walking down the highway in millions. Vande Bharath express carrying passengers are stranded without food and water are dying of exhaustion and extreme heat.
Modi couldn’t care less except taali, thaali, diya and mombatti all you want.

Sir, Migrant workers are Indians. If opposition don't speak about their apathy when ruling government doesn't nothing who will take care them when 'PM Care' don't care about his own citizens of India?
Mr.Dev imagine if you are among the one who have lost jobs, no shelter, no food, no water and no nothing where to go. Put your self in their position.

Doesn't Sonia Gandhi know that it's all included in the 20L Cr package? On a serious note, even if the government had a slightest inclination of parting with 7.5 k /migrant or whatever, now that the suggestion has come from Sonia, the chances of inclination turning to reality are zilch.

Why don't you start it in your ruled states?
Your ruled State Rajasthan has sent a bill of some Rs 20 lakhs to UP Govt for transporting migrants !
How come this random figure of Rs 7500? Just like that aa?
Remember your Nyay Scheme of Rs 6000 which had fallen flat in the last LS election ? This is just an extension of it?
Who is going to monitor this Rs 7500 odd for 6 months? Flyover hero n co?...
There would be absolutely no control and does not make economic sense either !
It is ration at the outset and jobs next that matter. The migrants may be prone to wadte the easy money. Easy come Easy go they say.
So make responsible statements from responsible positions and make everyone aware of their responsibility.
Making fancy statements, shirking responsibility at critical junctures, casual video conversations, arm chair advices would definitely attract more wrath from the people who booted you out.
Stand with our PM in unison to tackle the Covid Crisis. Theb maybe your luck might change a bit for the better.

Dear Bandarkar- first of all if everything has to be given by state Government, then central Govt is for what? to make politics and pull down other party Govt's?. Please advice central government to settle GST dues owed to state govts. Mindless people depending everything. The trains are reaching after 9days for some destinations which suppose to reach within 2 days. Indian ruling party became insensitive, yesterday there was video small child waking up her dead mother without knowing she is dead.
What if Sonia demands to give some money to poor people and what is your problem. They can write-off any loan for rich people. What is the use of PM care fund.

It is the duty of the State Govt where the migrant Labour is living. Law and Order is all State Subject and also health. So state can't deny their responsibility in feeding or giving shelter them.

    Sir AM...
Do you think I criticise just for the heck of it?
Do you think whatever I have written is wrong?
Tell me really... Do you know that this party has sent bills to Bihar and UP?
Have you seen Rahuls video where he abdicated responsibility in Maharashtra ? To make matters worse he edited his own video?
I mean you have done nothing for migrants in your states, charged for their transportation and then take the high stand that the Central Government must dole out hard cash Rs 7500 of it to each migrant family for 6 months ! You take it seriously ? You must be joking...
Instead appreciate the steps taken to take care of their hunger and make them self reliant. This is what AtmaNirbharatha means. Not feeding on Freebies. Help yes to some extent... Not to make anyone a Zoombie.
This statement of doling out cash without monitoring , responsibility is playing to the gallery to say the least !
Tell me how did they arrive at Rs 7500?
You know Rajbabbar or some other chap in the Congress? They were the ones telling a few years back that one could get a full square meal for Rs 10 in Mumbai or Delhi.... Now why these mock tears?
It is knowing all these facts only I comment.
If one indeed does good... let us all appreciate. Regards.

Migrants distress is not in the dictionary of this government. Therefore we have not seen a single statement from PM when migrants were struggling to get one meal, struggling to pay for shelter and walked all the way to reach home or lost their lives on the way. Migrants do not exist for them.

Now the supporters have started the Whats App war on the issue of migrants. There are sending many messages saying that all migrants have reached home and enjoying the free food given by the government. In the message they are trying to bring out the problems faced by middle class not getting jobs, loan repaying and other issues of job losses. Whatever the message says true about middle class but they are using this to nullify migrants distress.

This government is not for the weaker sections of the society but for the rich and powerful. Migrants, daily wagers and middle class will have to continue their struggle to live.

Then people like you are asking why they assembled? Experience yourself one time the situation what the migrant people are going through

    @Rathan,

As per one estimate nearly 30 lakh people walked their way to home. If these people walked as per instructions of Congress leaders then Congress has a big support base.

Why don't you have some heart for this poor? They do not belong to any party. Have you not seen pregnant ladies, children walking for thousands of kilometers. Be human first and then talk of party. What this government has done for them is unpardonable.
