Chennai, May 28 (IANS): Using the people's mandate to lead the government for five years, the BJP led central government is stepping into the legislative domain of the states or trying to breach the principle of federalism, said DMK President M.K.Stalin.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to withdraw the Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2020, Stalin said the Bill does not bode well for a healthy Centre-State relationship.
The DMK President said the Bill undermines the states' legislative power over electricity.
According to Stalin, free power supply for all farmers in Tamil Nadu has been a key pillar of economic growth, protecting lakhs of farmers while also controlling food inflation.
In a similar letter to the Chief Ministers of 12 non-BJP ruled states, the DMK President said the centralisation of state agencies is only to privatise them later, which is not acceptable.
Stalin sought the support of these 12 Chief Ministers for efforts by the DMK to protect the rights of the states and federalism guaranteed by the Constitution.
