Mangalore, Jan 27: “The platinum jubilee celebrations of Guardian Angel parish, Angelore, will be held from Sunday February 7 to Sunday February 14”, said Angelore parish priest Fr Stany B Lobo.

Addressing media persons at a press meet held at the parish hall here on Monday January 25, Fr Lobo gave a detailed account of the week-long programmes scheduled to mark the platinum jubilee.

“The procession of Holy Eucharist from Capitanio School grounds to Angelore parish will be held on Sunday February 7.  Special prayers will be held for the repose of all souls on Monday January 9.  The votive procession will be held from Capitanio School grounds to Angelore parish on Friday February 12”, he said.

“Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza will concelebrate the thanksgiving Holy Mass at 9.00 am on Sunday February 14.  The inaugural of the education fund honouring former parish priests of Angelore will be held after the Holy Mass followed by lunch for the entire gathering”, added Fr Lobo.

Assistant parish priest Fr Gratian Alvares, Capitanio convent superior Sr Humblin, parish council vice-president Jossy D’Souza, and secretary Philomena Tauro were present at the press meet.

Guardian Angel parish which is located on National Highway (NH) 48 between Pumpwell and Padil at Angelore, near Nagori, was established on March 3 1935, with a few Catholic families that were residing in the limits of Bendore and Milagres parishes. The church was blessed and inaugurated by the then Bishop Victor Fernandes.

The parish has grown to 785 families from the 120 it had in 1935.  The parish now has 3,500 members.

Ten priests have served the parish and Fr Lobo has been serving as parish priest since 2005.  He set in motion the platinum jubilee celebrations on March 8, 2009.  The parish has excelled in every sphere in the entire diocese.
