Riyadh, Jan 27: A man from Manjeshwar died on the spot and several others were injured in a fatal road accident that occurred at around 2.45 am (Saudi Time) in Al-Quwayyah, which is about 120 kms from Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The deceased is Zubair Bava, 38. The incident took place on Tuesday January 26, when the victims were returning from Makkah after performing the Umrah ritual.
Althaf Bajpe, a social worker in Riyadh, who rushed immediately to the spot along with others after the incident, first informed this correspondent of the tragedy.
About 13 families including children were traveling in a Nissan Van when the van suddenly overturned and its tire burst causing Zubair Bava’s death instantly. Shahid Mohammed, 34, from Kunjathur, was seriously wounded.
He was immediately taken to the nearby Al-Quwayyah Hospital where his condition is said to be critical.
A pregnant woman, Salma, whose unborn child died, is critically wounded with a fractured leg and multiple injuries to other parts of her body. She was taken to a hospital in Riyadh for further medical treatment with the help of the Indian Fraternity Forum (IFF), Riyadh Unit, who rushed to the spot soon after receiving the news.
Others who sustained minor injuries have been discharged after medical treatment.
Daijiworld has come to know that when Salma was taken to Sumaishi Hospital in Riyadh for treatment, the hospital authorities refused to admit her. The same type of treatment is said to have been meted out in a couple of other private hospitals also. Ultimately, she was admitted to the National Guard Hospital in Malaz district.
“It was really inhumane action and behaviour that we were subjected to when we got to the hospital to admit the injured patient. Despite repeated requests, they turned down our plea though the patient was bleeding severely”, said one of the social workers.
It must be remembered that a rule has existed in the Kingdom requiring all hospitals including government hospitals to admit without delay patients who have sustained injuries in any accident, and provide them proper medical treatment.
The action of the hospital authorities was against the rule and the humanitarian principle of the Kingdom.
It has been reported that the dead body of Zubair is in the morgue of Al-Quwayyah Hospital, awaiting legal and administrative formalities. The deceased had been in the Kingdom with his family since several years. His wife was also injured in the accident. Zubair hails from Kunjathur, Manjeshwar.
