Shimla, May 30 (IANS): Sanjay Kundu, a 1989 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been appointed the Director General of Police (DGP), here on Saturday. He replaced S.R. Mardi, who is retiring on Sunday.
Kundu was the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. He superseded DGP (Prisons) Somesh Goyal of 1984 batch, and Tapan Deka of 1988 batch, who has spent the most part of his career with the Intelligence Bureau.
Kundu had worked with the Union Water Resources Ministry as Joint Secretary.
