Rahul flays violence against women, says it comes in many forms

New Delhi, May 30 (IANS): After a video of a teenaged girl being beaten by her family members in Gujarat went viral on social media, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, here on Saturday, said it was not an isolated incident.

"The violence in this video is not isolated one. It's an expression of what many Indian women have always faced. The violence comes in many forms and is sustained by a culture that glorifies symbols of womanhood, while simultaneously treating women with total contempt and disrespect," he tweeted attaching a video where a group of men, reportedly her family members, beating the teenager.

The video shows men beating the teenager with sticks and also slapping and kicking her. It's not yet clear why she was being beaten.

    Sanjeev did you just read SEVEN MINOR GIRLS from the Wayanad orphanage blackmailed and raped recently? or something else also??? are you aware that six youths are arrested and charged or for obvious reasons you don't want to mention?? this is not seattle this is India.

    It's very surprising and disheartening that PM Modi never spoke about it neither he condemned the incident and no assurance of full support to the girl and a speedy justice. Rahul Gandhi has to do the ruling govt's job and bring up matter for justice. May be BJP people are involved in this heinous barbaric act. This is Modi's actual one of the many similar historic achievements in first year of Modi 2.0 govt.

    Raul's Party which could pass the Women reservation bill back in 2012 did not do so, then when Modi wanted to pass, made complete U turn with anti women bill parties like Samajwadi, RJD and NCP

    Modi could pass bills laws, bills and ordinances from parliament overnight in a jiffy with or without opposition support like Demonitisation, poorly planned GST, article 370, CAA, NRC, NPR etc, Was this 'women's reservations bill' so difficult for BJP to do or BJP didn't want to do?????????.....

    Yes we have problem with BJP for assaulting that small little girl. If BJP was innocent then they should have condemned the incident and punished the aggressor. Why nothing has happened?????.... Any body can vote any person of thier choice. There is no law in this case. So once the patry wins its the duty of that party to treat everybody equally irrespective of whom they voted.
