Mangaluru: Educationist Dr Olinda Pereira’s final journey live on Daijiworld from 2 pm

Mangaluru, Jun 1: The final journey of noted social worker and former principal of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Dr Olinda Pereira, will be streamed live on Daijiworld.com from 2 pm onwards on Monday, June 1.

Dr Olinda passed away on May 31. The 95-year-old, also a recipient of several awards, had contributed immensely in the field of education and social service, especially in helping senior citizens and elderly care. Known to be a pioneering educationist, she worked for the promotion of women's education and empowerment in various parts of the country.

She was part of the founding team of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya and served as its principal for more than 20 years. She also founded Vishwas Trust in 1999, an organisation promoting house-based care of the elderly, besides providing a day-care centre for the elderly, started city community development centre, family welfare organisation, kindergarten at Ullal and many other organisations in Mangaluru.

Daijiworld.com will bring live webcast of the funeral of Dr Olinda Pereira.

Funeral rites will be held at Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru at 3.30 pm on Monday, June 1, followed by burial at Valencia St Vincent Ferrer cemetery.

    I had the privilege and honor to know Dr. Pereira for over forty year having met her while at University in Hamilton Ontario Canada where she was lecturing on International Social Welfare. She made possible my dream of working and living in India back in the 1980’s We have maintained contact over the years and we visited in late January at her home in Valencia.
