Kundapur, Jun 2: In an incident which happened within the limits of the town police station here, a person of West Bengal origin reportedly tried to rape a minor girl after finding that she was alone in a rented house.
The person, who was caught in the act by the general public, was thrashed before being handed over to the police. The accused has been identified as Biswas (35).
The incident happened on Chikkansal Road here. The girl stays with her family in a rented house there. Reportedly, the girl's father and Biswas have been friends for the last 11 years.
On Monday June 1 morning, using the opportunity provided by the fact that the girl was alone and her parents were away, Biswas is said to have climbed up a tree next to the house, and entered the house by removing some tiles. When he tried to rape the girl, she raised an alarm.
Hearing the shouts of the girl for help, people nearby rushed to the spot, and handed Biswas over to the police. The police here have booked Biswas under different sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
