Udupi: Gandhiji’s Ideals Still Relevant: Oscar

Udupi, Jan 31: Oscar Fernandes, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee, said on Saturday, January 31 that the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi are relevant for all times.

He was speaking after inaugurating a human chain to promote harmony as part of Martyr’s Day celebrations organised by the Udupi district Congress Seva Dal here.



Fernandes said that the entire world believed that Gandhiji was a messenger of peace. All people, especially the youth, should follow the ideals of Gandhiji. The Congress Seva Dal was aiming at spreading Gandhiji’s ideals of truth, non-violence, peace and harmony by forming a human chain, he said. Some people were questioning the relevance of Gandhiji’s ideals now. “But, I say that Gandhiji’s were relevant then, now and for all times to come,” he said.

MLA Gopal Bhandary and Congress leaders Vinaykumar Sorake, Gopal Poojary, M.A. Gafoor, Veronica Carnelio, Diwakar Kundar, Ashok Kodavoor, Harish Kini and Narasihmamurthy were present.
