Draconian measures flattened economy not virus: Congress

New Delhi, June 3 (IANS): Ahead of Rahul Gandhi's conversation with industrialist Rajiv Bajaj, the Congress has alleged that "the draconian measures have flattened the Indian economy instead of the virus".

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said, a consensus is emerging that the "harsh lockdown has been a failure".

Rahul Gandhi once again called for a compassionate response and the urgent need for the government to listen to stakeholders and experts.

Rahul Gandhi's conversation with industrialist Rajiv Bajaj on the economic fallout of the lockdown will be released on Thursday at 10 a.m.

Rahul Gandhi in his interaction with Bajaj said, in India if you want to do something, be compassionate and listen. And the country will automatically tell you what it wants. So there are people right now, screaming in pain and the most obvious are, the manual labourers, daily wagers, he said.

Rajiv Bajaj, in a dialogue with Rahul Gandhi said, "We tried to implement a harsh lockdown which was still porous. So I think we have ended up with the worst of both worlds. On one hand a porous lockdown makes sure that the virus will still exist and as you said, it is still waiting to hit you when you will unlock."

"AlSo you have not solved that problem. But you have definitely decimated the economy. You flattened the wrong curve. It is not the infection curve, it is the GDP curve. This is what we have ended (up) with, the worst of both worlds," added Bajaj.

The Congress said, "stimulus package does little to rebuild business confidence and has left many with little leeway to bounce back". The constant back and forth regarding regulations for reopening have left businesses paralyzed, the party said.

This is the fourth interaction of Rahul Gandhi with top economists and industrialists. He has been extremely active across social media for many years now, becoming one of the 10 most followed politicians in the world on Twitter (14.5 million followers), said the statement from the Congress.

Problem with the present government is they do not have any experts who can guide them. Decision is taken by two people who thinks that running the government is a business. There are no long term measures or the foresight in the decisions taken.

Government is not able to find a capable Finance Minister and it is a tragedy. Now there is a talk that KV Kamath will take over. He being alumnus of our institution, I have a great respect for him. He is successful in developing financial institutions but running a country is entirely a different ball game.

Today we really miss MMS. We Indians elect the government based on how the leader is able to talk but not on performance. Unless this thinking is changed we cannot get the government which can perform.

@ Satish Kunder...India and Indians must realize their mistakes of voting for a non performer who knows only to talk lies and find reasons to justify his failures/actions by 60 years of congress rule or Nehru. How long one can digest his oratory hollow skills and raoming the world on tax payers money. Now he FEKHU is home quarantined in India and cannot travel abroad due to Covid-19!

    As I have written before...

31 Jan 2020: WHO declared - Covid-19 an International Emergency.

Immediately Mr Gandhi requested the anpad leadeship to initiate steps to safegiard the country.
The anpad leadeship and the equally happy followers laughed at Mr Gandhi's advice.

24 Feb 2020: Namaste Trump to inaugurate Motera stadium in Choksi-state. 125,000 attended to show Do-lund Bhai how much they love him.

And later the drama-queen 8PM announcements.

India with 1.4 billion population will have to beg China for financial help!

    @ Rahul G T

Oh yeah, a good joke. Laugh at the fact that when the previous government left the central seat to BJP, the GDP was 7.4. I'm sure I need not recall it for you, but you are keeping track of the economy how it flourished to reach 8 to 10% during the past six years of BJP govt. Only to arrive at 1.4% during the first quarter of 2020. How did it happen ? Who looted the money ? Nehru took it to his grave ?

Now please also laugh at the fact that Corona, though had hit the global economies since Nov. 2019, first case of Corona surfaced in Kerala on Jan 30, by a patient who returned from China. Why was the lockdown delayed till March end ? This is the preparedness of the present government. It wanted to go ahead with 'Namaste Trump' and also to establish it's throne in MP.

Laugh man, laugh out loudly at the efficiency of the government that behaved mute/deaf to the problems of the nation but went ahead lavishly in image building of the leader. Plese find out how much of the revenue is spent on advertisement of achievement of the government.

Now, let the leader offer on a platter his popularity to the citizens to eat for three times a day.

    Deshbhakht,

You have put it nicely. Any number of fake messages from WhatsApp University cannot change the facts. This government is actually clueless and only doing the fire fighting.

Instead of commenting on the problem facing the country, Andh Bhakts only indulge in mocking the opposition leaders and in this case Rahul Gandhi. Many a times it is observed that they also make personal attacks on the people commenting here when are not able to defend.

When the top elected/selected leaders lack education, the babus run the show.

Babus write the script, and the uneducated leaders read the script - like movie actors.

But the Delhi babus are mostly from Bihar/Kerala - the bankrupt states.

So we have the economic calamity.

I won't be surprised if our leaders ask China to help us with 5 billion dollars. Government has no spare money.
