DUSU demands special package for varsity students

New Delhi, June 4 (IANS): The Delhi University Students' Union on Thursday wrote to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and requested him to provide a special package for the varsity students.

DUSU, along with the 128 college representatives, wrote to the Chief Minister demanding a special package for the students of university and asked for policies to give relaxation to the students who are in the lurch due to the pandemic.

DUSU said that students are forced to evacuate their flats and those who are at home are asked to take away their belongings, which is not possible for them to come to Delhi all the way from their hometown.

"We have implored the Chief Minister to provide a special package for these students and also waive off their rent charges so that in this critical situation, the students can be provided with a financial package as a concession through the direct money transfer to their accounts," the association said.

This would be of immense help to the students in financial terms as the pandemic has also severely affected the income of their parents and guardians, it added.

DUSU President Akshit Dahiya said "As a responsible, credible and student-friendly DUSU. It is our responsibility to ensure that students are not hampered in this situation of crisis. Hence, DUSU has appealed to the Chief Minister of Delhi for the provision of a special package and hopes that the government would take this into its consideration."
