Panaji, June 4 (IANS): The Goa government reported 40 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday, which took the state's tally of active cases to 109. Of new cases, 32 were reported at Mangor hill, designated a containment zone on Wednesday, in Vasco town of the South Goa district, said Health Secretary Nila Mohanan, here on Thursday.
The spurt in cases in Mangor hill, which had a close cluster of houses, could have been because of delay in reporting Covid-19 like symptoms by a family, she said. One member of the family had come in contact with a driver of an inter-state fish transport truck and had not reported symptoms to the state health authorities for three days.
One male health worker, who was active in Mangor hill area, also tested positive.
In the past two days, 72 people have tested Covid-19 positive in Mangor hill.
Eight people who arrived at the popular beach village of Calangute in North Goa from Maharashtra have also tested positive and contact tracing efforts are on.
Mohanan said a mother-daughter duo living in a central government employee's colony near Panaji had also tested positive.
