Panaji, Jun 5: Chief minister Pramod Sawant visited Mangor Hill on Thursday, June 4 to assess the situation as maximum cases were reported from the area. Sawant said that the decision to bring more areas in Vasco under containment zone would be taken on Friday depending on the test results that were awaited.
Sawant said, "We have taken a review and we feel the situation is under control and that the cases will come down. However, let's see how many positive cases are detected on Friday based on which we will take decisions."
Sawant said that on Wednesday 30 tested positive out of 380 tests all from Mangor Hill. On Thursday another 400 tests were conducted and the results are awaited. No cases were reported from outside Mangor Hill, therefore, there is no reason to panic, he said.
He further said that the Mangor Hill area is closely monitored. No one is permitted to move out and appealed the people to cooperate.
"MLA Carlos Almeida has demanded that the lockdown should be made stricter, but I will first take a review of the situation," Sawant said.
Mangor ward councillor, Pascoal D'Souza told the chief minister that the area is running short of groceries and other necessary items. Sawant assured that groceries would be made available and it would be distributed free for the needy.
