Karnataka’s Folk Game, ‘Lagori’ Sets Foot in Oman

Salalah, Feb 2: Karnataka wing of Indian Social Club, Salalah, Oman, recently conducted a Lagori tournament for the members of Indian community, living in Salalah. The tournament, which was first of its kind to have been organized in Oman, was held between January 21 and 24, 2010.
In addition to Karnataka, 10 other teams representing communities speaking different languages, like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarathi, Punjabi, Hindi, Bengali, Urdu besides ISC and Ladies wing, participated in this tournament. In total, 28 matches were being played on league basis.
Karnataka wing won the glittering cup, by defeating Bengali wing by a margin of 6 - 5 points, in a nail-biting final, which was witnessed by a large crowd.
G D Rajput, Rebello, Prabhakar, Shrimathi and Revathy Sudheendra, officiated as umpires for the matches.
