Bihar Congress demands Rs 10K for each migrant labourer

Patna, Jun 6 (IANS): Bihar Youth Congress on Saturday wrote to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, demanding Rs 10,000 to each migrant labourer who has come back from various states.

Targeting Nitish Kumar, former Bihar Youth Congress president Lallan Kumar said, "You have not stepped out of the CM residence for so many days. Several photographs of your video conferences with selected quarantine centres went viral but you never bothered to contact the centre where a snake was found. Nor you thought of talking to the people at the quarantine centres where they are provided with only rice."

"A youth committed suicide at a quarantine centre in Gaya and a scorpion was found in food at one of the quarantine centres of the state. Won't the people living in such condition consider themselves unlucky?" he asked Kumar in his letter.

Questioning the testing strategy of the government, former Bihar Youth Congress president said that more than 25-30 lakh workers have returned to Bihar from other states, while not even one lakh of them have been tested for coronavirus yet, then why are they being accused of spreading corona?

"Rs 10,000 should be deposited in the account of all the migrant workers and all those who are below poverty line and they should be given Rs 2,500 per month as an allowance till they are employed," he said in his letter to the CM.

He said that these labourers play an important role in nation-building but unfortunately in the current situation they have been pushed to the brink.
