Yeddyurappa Warns against Moral Policing on V-Day

Bangalore, Feb 2 (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa Tuesday warned against "moral policing" on Valentine's Day Feb 14 and promised security to those celebrating the day.

The warning followed threats by pro-Hindu outfit Sri Rama Sene (army of Lord Rama) that it would, like last year, oppose Valentine's Day celebrations.

"Action will be taken against those indulging in acts of moral policing," Yeddyurappa told reporters here.

"Security will be in place on Valentine's Day across the state. We will ensure a free and fair atmosphere," he asserted.

The Sri Rama Sene, which earned notoriety in January 2009 by attacking women in a pub in the coastal town of Mangalore and later threatened to get couples celebrating Valentine's Day forcibly married, has said it would oppose the celebrations this year too.

Sene head Pramod Mutalik, however, has not spelt out details of the agitation or activities planned by his men on that day.

He said in Belgaum in north Karnataka Monday that his outfit had requested schools and colleges not to allow the celebrations.

The Mangalore pub attack had evoked nation-wide condemnation.

The Sene's threat of getting couples married also fizzled out in the face of civil society organisations and all political parties decrying the threat.

The Sene has little support in Karnataka but Mutalik manages to grab headlines by periodic strong statements on religious conversion, terrorism, and threat to Hinduism from western culture and on occasions like Valentine's Day.

Who are these Hanuman's (Ram sena) to stop the celebration of any day. Its one's freedom to celebrate a day in a way one likes. They are openly challenging the Govt saying they can do anything. Catch these monkey's and send them to Sri Lanka to fight Ravana, Bozo's.

Finally some hopes from our honorable CM. Thank you and we wait for your action in this regard. For what is happening in Goa, people there will look into it and will question the concerned. We have to safeguard our house (hometown) first, to be able to help others.

Dear Manish and Mukesh, when your house is on fire, would you go to solve your neighbor’s problem or extinguish the fire? Think before you write something. Of course, we all condemn all the rape cases in Goa and Orissa as well.

Everything depends on which side of the fense your looking from. Yuddi bargained karnataka's mining wealth to Reddy's. That is desh bhakti. Advani betrayed his own collegues that is desh bakhti. Where is a italian born Indian, refused PM's post, for betterment of Indian democracy. That is hypocracy. I am not sure since when these chinese agents have creeped in BJP.

One must be very careful in his/her comments, when BBMP election is round the corner. Who can be more tactical or cunning than our chief minister? Words should match the action to make someone believe, what he intended. Now people are educated they understand all hidden strategies, which is very painful for all shameless politicians. This forces them to curb English medium schools to limit the knowledge of electorates.

They still have many unemployed goons who work for them and vote for them and see that their party wins the election. Our state needs good decision makers, who can differentiate between the right and the wrong. Corrupt politicians, holding our country back from faster development, with the help of power and fear.

I would like to ask Nagesh one question: How come the churches in Mangalore were attacked in relation to the attacks on Indians in Australia? Have any of the miscreants been arrested yet? Only Yeddy ranted and raved about the attack but no action was ever taken. Slowly, we Indians are losing our democracy. In Mumbai, people should respect the Shiv Sena and not talk against their ideology or you can have yourself and your house attacked.

In Tamil Nadu you cant go against the DMK. Now In Karnataka, you cant talk against the Ram Sene otherwise they will make life hell for you. Whereis the democracy then? I sure feel that goondas have taken over every state in our country and to wipe them atleast we need 2 years of military dictatorship.

Hotel Rama is not the Hotel of Lord Rama, please dont mis guide the people and spoil the name of a great Maha Purush, comparing to an association of Goondas.

The most befitting answer to these ruffians is to ignore them. What they crave for is publicity. Don't give them that and no one will even remember who was Pramod Mutalik. No more need to have ourselves held ransom at the hands of a few uneducated narrow minded hypocrites.

Slowly and steadily Yeddy realising that polarization technique by immoral police & their boss types are losing respect. Chidambaram boldly sidelined Shiva Sena goons so also RSS. Now it is time our native sena known for vandalism is at the receiving end. Who wants to bet on losing horse? Sure, DK police force is in no mood to support immoral policing!!

Sir, if you can do something tangible to stop the street madness of SRS, that will be highly commendable. Perhaps, you may not be aware of the bad publicity about Karnataka due to the Church attacks on the one hand, and street rowdism being undertaken by SRS and such wayward sections of the society, on the other hand. When their misguided freedom is encroaching other's fundamental freedom, then the society will be heading towards anarchy.

Its better late than never. I am with CM. I m sure intellience must have warned him in advance of the evil plans of SRS. Just dont be a habitual critic of CM. He has spoken ahead of the day and wants to convey the message " I am serious" Now we must wait and see will SRS still go ahead with its threat. Will CM remain inactive? Its too early to judge and pass comments. Most of the negative comments here are the fall out of inactiveness on the part of CM. He has already created an impression of RSS "rubber stamp" and "puppet"f Reddy brothers. Thats sad.

Sir, these anti-national goondas never take serious face value of your warning. Please ask your home department to apply detterent penel code to put them behind the bar.Sir,it's too much on daily basis they are creating ruksus and attacking place of worship of minority communities.Even they do not hesitate to give open press statement about their intention thereby challenging govt enforcement bodies. It looks as our police forec showing some sort of soft corner to them.Karnataka's name and fame for peaceful co-existance are tarnished by these few goonds in the national and Int'l level. We appriciate your guesture by warning them in advance and also look forward to contain them.
