180 migrants airlifted from Port Blair to Odisha


Bhubaneswar, Jun 8 (IANS): The Odisha government evacuated 180 migrants from Port Blair of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by a special AirAsia flight, which landed at the Biju Patnaik International Airport, here on Monday.

"The Odisha government officials coordinated, completed Covid-19 formalities before bringing them to airports from different places. Continuing the mission to bring home all stranded people safely, one more flight landed from Andaman & Nicobar with 180 passengers," tweeted the Chief Minister's Office.

So far, the state government has evacuated over 600 migrants by air from different states.

"Committed to bring home stranded migrant workers from different parts of the country, more than 600 people have been airlifted from J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura. Air evacuation is being done where rail/road travel isn't possible," the CMO said.

Over 3 lakh migrants have been brought to Odisha by Shramik special trains.
