Shiamak Davar: Dance is one of the best ways to de-stress

Mumbai, Jun 9 (IANS): Popular choreographer Shiamak Davar says the lockdown has not been easy on anybody, and finds dance as one of the best ways to de-stress.

"Dance for me is life. My motto has always been, 'Have Feet. Will Dance'. For me and my team, it is our mission to impart the joy of dance to everyone. Dance is one of the best ways to de-stress. It's a way for the kids to creatively channel the energy at home and also bring a smile to everyone's faces. The music comes alive when one is performing and right now it's a great time for anyone who wants to learn something," he said.

To help India dance away its lockdown blues, he recently collaborated with the online dance contest "Home Dancer".

As many as 30 dancers in different regions of the country recently went live at the same time and broke into a virtual flash mob.

The video compiles energetic performances by dancers and choreographers -- Puneet Cheema, Aneesha Dalal, Upasana Madan, Amit Somani and Prashant Mohan among others, grooving to the original soundtrack of "Home Dancer", which streams on Disney+ Hotstar.

"To tell you the truth, the lockdown is challenging for all of us and over the last two months, my instructors and everyone else in our team has been dancing from home or teaching people to do so. So, when I first heard of 'Home Dancer', which revolves around this concept, it resonated so strongly with me and my team that I just knew we had to be a part of it. It is a creative and refreshing way to encourage the spontaneity amongst consumers and engage with them from the comfort of their homes," said Shiamak.
