With spike of 10K cases India 4th worst-hit, surpasses UK

New Delhi, Jun 12 (IANS): India on Friday became the fourth worst-affected country due to the pandemic as it added around 10,000 cases for the fourth consecutive day and surpassed the UK's tally to record 2,97,535 Covid-19 cases so far.

With a record highest single day spike of 10,956 cases, according to data released by Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India tipped UK which has 2,92,860 cases.

A total of 396 people died in the last 24 hours taking the total toll to 8,498, the Health Ministry data said.

For the fourth consecutive day, the number of recoveries (1,47,194) remained higher than the active ones (1,41,842).

Maharashtra remained the worst-hit state in the country with total inching close to the one lakh-mark with 97,148 cases, including 3,590 deaths and 46,078 recoveries.

It is followed by Tamil Nadu (38,716) and the national capital with 34,687 Covid-19 cases.

States with more than 10,000 cases include Gujarat with 22,032 cases and 1,385 deaths, Uttar Pradesh (12,088), Rajasthan (11,838), Madhya Pradesh (10,241).

In a little over a week, seven states have shown renewed surge as the lockdown was further eased -- Maharashtra (sindle day spike has doubled), Delhi (added over 1,800 new cases), Tamil Nadu, Haryana (three-fold), West Bengal , Jammu and Kashmir (nearly doubled) and Uttar Pradesh. India is now just over 2,000 cases less than the 3-lakh mark.

    1. If Nehru established few laboratories to test corona, BJP could have tackled it better.
    2. If Indira Gandhi developed a vaccine for Corona virus, our beloved Prime Minister Shriman Narendra Modiji would not have forced lock down at 8 pm.
    3. If Congress developed moving roads, then the migrant labours would have not walked, but just stand there and would have reached their home.
    4. If Rahul Gandhi produced petrol and diesel in Amethi, BJP would not have increased the petrol price so often.
    5. If Vadra reserved some land for the purpose of quarantine, BJP would not have transformed the Railways as quarantine cabin by spending crores of tax payers money.
    6. If Sonia Gandhi brought some fast trains from Italy, that could have been used now to transfer those migrants to their places.

    Modi Government doing a great job on controlling corona. This slogan was commented by earlier by some of the ministers .Where are they now ?.Why now cannot control it .Blame will go to opposite party .

    Do you have still doubt. See our population...fatality rate....recovery rate as compare to western countries...iran. In saudi arabia it crossed one lakh..cases. BJP party never lies.

    Manjunath, Then why the PM was comparing our status with other countries in his live speech. Have you forgotten that India one of the countries having substandard social behavior pattern and due to this the spread of pandemic can be more than other countries ? And have we not suffered more fatalities from the allied and ancillary reasons of COVID 19. How you people can be blind about all these things. wait for some time, if the vaccine is not found out , ours will be one of the best tallies in fatalities surpassing other countries.

    Dear bhakth Manjunatha,

    With whom you want to compare??
    This is the same ministry which claimed that Corona is not a threat to India.
    India's first corona case detected on the 30th of January and lock down announced on the 24th March leaving millions of people on the Road for months. People are not caned by cops for coming out of their house to buy food in other countries.
    No one counted the deaths that related to corona like people committing suicide, migrants dying while walking miles and miles and even those died of other co morbidity.
    You talked about population. Don't you remember the statement from the top medic that India do not have the capacity of testing in millions. Don't you think there also should be more medics as well with that population?
    You compared to western countries. They have tested a lot and if we don't test any, then we could say that we are corona free. Western countries also have higher population of elderly people (who are vulnerable to corona) who live together in aged care felicity. (for example 80% who died in Australia are from aged care)
    Let me put these numbers for you so that you can read something other than Nagpur syllabus.

    China is communist country....death rate in crores. Shoot at sight..who is having virus. Many names in Telephone exchange deleted. Virus first they tested on muslims who are in detention centre.
