High COVID-19 mortality rate exposes Gujarat Model: Rahul

New Delhi, Jun 16 (IANS): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday took a jibe at the BJP-run government in Gujarat and said that the high mortality rate due to COVID-19 has exposed the state's model for disease control.

"Covid19 mortality rate: Gujarat: 6.25% Maharashtra: 3.73% Rajasthan: 2.32% Punjab: 2.17% Puducherry: 1.98% Jharkhand: 0.5% Chhattisgarh: 0.35% Gujarat Model exposed," Gandhi wrote on Twitter, quoting a news report.

Meanwhile, Gujarat has the fourth-highest COVID-19 cases in India. The state saw its total death toll cross the 1,500-mark to reach 1,505 on Tuesday morning, taking the case tally to 24,055.

Though the number of positive cases being detected from the state's worst-hit Ahmedabad are gradually coming down, the cases are still spiraling, at an average of 488 cases daily.

Government failed to take serious view of the spread of Corona Virus world over. Timely steps were not taken even after the detection of first patient in India on January 30th. Caution by experts and opposition parties were ignored and on the contrary those raised the alarm were mocked.

Delay in screening at the airport cost us not only the spread of virus but the fall of economy. Delayed lockdown resulted in extending the lockdown 5 times. No preparation was done for increased testing and infrastructure in the hospitals. More thrust is given in organizing the events than the actual work in fighting the virus. PPE to health workers were not provided in time.

Along with the above, poor people were left in distress with the sudden lockdown and government did very little to take care of the downtrodden. They were forced to walk thousands of kilometers without any support of the government.

Leader just vanished from the scene. This crisis has exposed that the fake publicity about a leader and the governance. Good governance can be only done by a capable leader with a vision.

The ‘Namaste Trump’ event organised by the state BJP government in on February 24 here was responsible for the spread of coronavirus in the state.

People were asked to stand shoulder to shoulder on the road to greet the leaders. Lakhs of people were brought to the stadium in buses. This triggered spread of the virus. This event was not a mistake, but a criminal negligence. The ‘Namaste Trump’ event was responsible for community transmission of the virus.

Now Gujarat stands fourth in 'Covid-19' cases. The Gujarati among highest number of Indians are settled abroad having family ties is regular visitors to India for business and personal reasons.
