Puttur: Dakshina Kashi- All set for Shivratri

Puttur, Feb 10: The famous Shivlinga situated at the Sahasralingeshwara temple, popularly known as the Dakshina Kashi or Gayapada Kshetra, Uppinangady here is all set for Shivratri.



Located at the confluence of the Netravati and the Kumaradhara rivers, the Shivlinga will be covered completely with sand during rainy season. During the Makhi fare here thousands of devotees gather to offer a special puja during which the sand cover will be removed from the linga.

The Makhi fair will be held for three days. The puja of Shivlinga will take place on the first day of the fair on Friday, February 12.  Preparations are on full -swing for the celebration.  A committee has also been formed to provide facilities for the devotees who will be coming from far off places.

The speciality of this puja is that it will be performed by devotees themselves and not by the priests unlike in many devotional places in the district.
