Hubli Idgah Ground becomes ‘Veerarani Chennamma Maidan’

Daijiworld Media Network – Dharwad (SP)

Dharwad, Feb 11: The City Corporation here has decided to re-christen the Idgah Ground as ‘Veerarani Kittur Chennamma Maidan’, after the High Court recently held that the ground belongs to the City Corporation.

During the zero hour, when the opposition members were absent, corporator, Shivanand Muttannavar proposed the above change. The members felt that the ground has been effectively vested with the Corporation due to the recent High Court verdict. As Veerarani Chennamma Circle, where the horse-borne statue of the legendary queen is installed, is located by the side of the ground, the corporators felt that it would be appropriate to rename the ground after the queen. The members present, in unison, supported the move.
