Gandhinagar, Jun 17 (IANS): Gujarat detected 520 more coronavirus positive cases on Wednesday, taking the total number to 25,148. The disease has claimed 27 more lives in the state, taking the total deaths to 1,561, health officials said.
A total of 520 cases were detected out of 5,801 RT-PCR tests conducted by the health authorities. Out of these, 330 cases were detected in Ahmedabad (63.46 per cent), followed by Surat (65), Vadodara (44), Gandhinagar (16), Bharuch (7), Jamnagar (6), Junagadh (5), Bhavnagar, Rajkot, Anand, Kheda and Patan (4 each), Mahesana and Gir-Somnath (3 each), Banaskantha, Aravalli, Amreli Surendranagar and Devbhumi Dwarka (2 each) and Mahisagar, Sabarkantha, Botad, Dahod, Navsari, Morbi, Narmada and a patient from other state with one positive case each.
Wednesday saw 27 patients succumbing to the global pandemic, out of which Ahmedabad had the highest casualties (22). Two patients from Vadodara and one patient each from Anand, Bharuch and Gandhinagar succumbed to the virus.
Despite the share of Ahmedabad having come down to 70.10 per cent of the total cases, the fatality rate of the city remained the same -- around 81 per cent of the total. Almost one third of the deaths -- 523 people, out of the total 1,561, have succumbed to the virus in just 17 days of June.
Till date, out of the total deaths, 1,256 people have died in Ahmedabad alone, followed by 106 in Surat, 49 in Vadodara, 22 in Gandhinagar, 15 in Panchmahals, 14 in Aravalli, 13 each in Bhavnagar and Anand, 10 in Patan, 9 in Mahesana and 8 in Banaskantha. Gujarat has the highest mortality rate in the country -- 6.20 per cent.
Ahmedabad continues to lead the state with maximum positive cases at 17,629, followed by Surat (2,779), Vadodara (1,687), Gandhinagar (520), Mahesana (193), Bhavnagar (174), Rajkot (171), Banaskantha (156), Aravalli (152), Sabarkantha (144), Anand (135), Panchmahals (131), Patan (124), Mahisagar (121), Kheda (112), Kutch (104), Bharuch (106), Jamnagar (91), Surendranagar (83), Botad (69), Valsad (59), Gir-Somnath (53) and Junagadh with 52 positive cases.
Out of a total 3,03,671 RT-PCR tests carried out in the state, 2,78,523 have been found negative.
There are 6,149 active cases, out of which the condition of 6,080 is stable, whereas 69 critical patients are still on ventilator, health officials said.
Right now, there are nearly 2.2 lakh people quarantined in the state, out of which 2,14,234 are home quarantined and 3,908 in government facilities.
