Mangalore: Gang Rape Main Accused Held

Mangalore, Feb 11: The personnel of Dakshina Kannada district crime intelligence bureau (DCIB) have arrested Mohammed Shaffi, who is the main accused in a case pertaining to enticing a Chikmagalur district resident to come to Bangalore by making her believe that she would be provided with an employment in Saudi Arabia, and then reportedly subjecting her to gang-rape.

The team, headed by DCIB inspector, Venkatesh Prasanna, raided the hide out of Shaffi at Kalladka near Puttur, and arrested him on Tuesday February 9 night.

Ramlat, a widow from Hosally in Moodigere taluk, Chikmagalur district, was reportedly promised a job in Saudi Arabia by Shaffi. He, along with Latif and Kalam, who runs a travel agency here, had collected Rs 65,000 from her for securing the promised job. They are accused of taking her to Bangalore on October 13, 2009, booking a room in Hindustan Lodge in Majestic area of Bangalore and gang-raping her. The woman had escaped from them and registered a complaint in Upparpet police station.

Latif and Kalam have already been arrested. The investigation had been handed over to the DCIB policemen here.

    These incident will attract no groups or political parties as this is a matter of one community only . No sensation in this issue which can be highlighted . But common man has one thing to say strict punishment to the culprits .
