Muslim body seeks action against TV anchor

Pilibhit (Uttar Pradesh), Jun 18 (IANS): A top Muslim body has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take strict action against an anchor of a news channel for allegedly making derogatory remarks regarding Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, known in the Islamic world as Khwaja Gharib Nawaz.

The All India Ulema Mashaikh Board, a representative body consisting of the 'Sajjada Nasheen' of Dargahs, Imams of mosques, Muftis and teachers of madarsas, has sent a letter to Modi after the remark was made during a television debate on June 15.

In the letter, the Islamic scholar and the divisional president of the Board, Mufti Sajid Hassani Qadri, expressed displeasure of clerics over the comments made by the news anchor.

Qadri wrote, "Dargah-e-Gharib Nawaz is a sacred place that is revered by millions of people from across the world. As it had been spreading the message of harmony and brotherhood, the act of making objectionable comments about Hazrat Chishti was therefore a grim offence."

Qadri urged the Prime Minister to ensure that the erring news anchor and concerned news channel be subjected to stern punitive action.

Meanwhile, Qari Amanat Rasool Qadri Rizvi Chishti, the Khalifa-e Mufti-e Azam Hind, along with half-a-dozen clerics, also submitted a written complaint against the erring news anchor, to the Station House Officer of Sadar Kotwali in Pilibhit, asking him to lodge a FIR in the matter.

The police said that the matter was under investigation.

The errant TV journalists emboldened to indulge in such unethical journalism practices because of patronage they are enjoying from some people in the government. It is unfortunate that the TV channels are stooping to such a low mere for enhancing their TRP.

People revered Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti irrespective of their religious affiliation and visit his shrine to pay their respect and homage. To use such filthy and foul language against such a person who is loved and respected by all, is also the violation of the constitution values, therefore, the incident deserves severe condemnation and the government should immediately take action against the anchor and the channel.

Although, the said anchor has tendered the apology, but this is not the first time he used such offensive language as he is a known habitual offender to create communal rift in the society.

The journalism know to be fourth column of the democracy is crumbling due to unethical TRP based journalist. The credibility of India's media is going down because of few 'Godi Media'. Unfortunate is that even the highest court of India sides with these journalist quashing FIR's and allowing the hatred to continue.

If the Justice of the nation fails to protect the secularism of this nation, it won't be late that these media will become 'Radio Rwanda' that continuously spread hatred so much that it led to ethnic cleansing of one million Tutsi'.

Is India is the next 'Rwanda' for the minorities of this nation?
