KSLTA to approach state govt for land to construct tennis stadium


Bengaluru, Jun 19 (IANS): The Executive Committee meeting of the newly elected body of the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA) was held in Bengaluru on Thursday. Although the elections to KSLTA Executive committee were held as early as February 17, the EC could not meet owing to the restrictions imposed due to Covid-19.

In the meeting chaired by its President R. Ashoka, who is also Minster for Revenue, Government of Karnataka, a road map for next 10 years, ‘Vision 2030' was drawn up, and decisions were taken to work towards the goal. The agenda for the four (4) year tenure of the organization was also set in this meeting.

The mission is to promote and develop tennis in the state of Karnataka in a well-defined manner and create opportunities for emergence of world-class players from the state. To develop infrastructure and run skill development in tennis to produce coaches, officials, trainers, etc to ensure a successful livelihood in the sport. To organize tournaments from grassroot to international events to enhance the state as a major tennis destination.

The aim is to create environment and support system to help top 100 players emerge in ATP & WTA. To be a state tennis association that is respected and looked upon by the Indian sports fraternity. to build 500 tennis courts across the state, to develop skilled work force in areas of coaching, officials, trainers, etc. To build tennis infrastructure at all district headquarters capable of hosting a national/international event. To make Karnataka a major tennis destination. To make Bengaluru the tennis capital of the country. To make the KSLTA Club House a splendid and exclusive club that members and players would be proud of.

With an aim to make Bengaluru, a major ennis destination of the world, it was proposed to approach the government for sanction of land to construct an international tennis stadium which would could host major tennis events and also a major tennis training base to produce world-class players from the nation.
