Armed forces given freedom to take any necessary step: Modi

New Delhi, Jun 20 (IANS): In a significant announcement in the wake of the tensions with China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that his government has given the armed forces full freedom to take any necessary action.

Addressing the all-party meeting he called to discuss the border situation, Modi said: "Our forces are fully capable of defending our borders."

He also asserted that whether it is an issue of trade, connectivity or counter-terrorism, India has not submitted to any external pressure.

"What is necessary for national security, whatever infrastructure is needed to be built on the borders, it will be done at the same rapid speed," he said.

The Prime Minister also said that one benefit of the improved infrastructure is that is has become easier to reach the necessities to the soldiers living in harsh conditions on the border areas.

"India wants peace and friendship, but the issue of its sovereignty is supreme," he said, noting that all participants in the meeting had expressed the same sentiments.

"While on one hand, we have allowed the defence forces to take whatever steps they may deem fit, on the other hand, we have also conveyed our resolve to China through diplomatic means. It is definite that whatever happened on the LAC has shocked and enraged the entire nation," Modi said.

Chowkidar is sleeping. If no territory has been occupied then how come these twenty fatalities. If Indian territory is not occupied by China then how come our unarmed forces have been killed..... how come they have captured our soldiers and few released next day.

Kargil, Doklam and now Ladakh. If there is accontability then such incidents dont get repeated.

A through investigation should be done into this incident and people responsible should be punished be it the political class who gave orders that no weapons will be used at all. The agency responsible for patrolling the LAC in peace time BSF/ITBF. The intelligence agencies responsible for its failure to report anf if reported then what follow up action taken.

Since an agreement was reached between the chinese and indian Army on 6th, confrontation could have been avoided on the night of 16th for resolving by the Army Commanders nest day. Who gave the orders for the petrol party to tackle any impediments on 16th instead of withdrawing and letting the Army Commanders resolve the issue.

How come weapons were not used by our Army units inspite of the savage attack by the Chinese meant only to kill our soldiers.

A comprehensive probe into this incident and accountability with punitive action against erring officials only will help prevent such reoccurences in future. Jai Hind.

Indian soldiers went to check without guns as if they went for Gandhi's Dandi salt march and got battered. However, they also trusted a pact between two countries which abstained from guns during check visits. So we know who back stabbed

As I said before, all order to deal with an another country (militarily/otherwise), has to come from the civilian leadership.

Like how Indira Gandhi openly authorised the military action on East Pakistan in 1971.

Now, if what China is claiming is true, the Chinese have already occupied perhaps several THOUSAND sq.kms. of Indian land, since 2014.

Is this the civilian leadership India wants?

What is impotant to investigate the reasons why the border patrol like the BSF ot ITBF was unable to detect the build up of the Chinese forces and there by allowing them to gain access within our LAC and for finally resulting in the death of so many of our Brave Hearts.

A Parlimentary Committte should be ordered to investigate the sytematic intelligence failures that led to this tragedy
