After Modi says no incursions, China claims Galwan valley

Beijing/New Delhi, Jun 20 (IANS): After Prime Minister Narendra Modi said there are no foreign incursions into India, China has once again claimed that Galwan valley of Ladakh union territory is located on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

In an official statement on the step-by-step account of the Galwan face-off where 20 Indian soldiers were killed, China's foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian has said the Galwan valley is located on the Chinese side of the LAC in the west section of the China-India boundary.

"For many years, the Chinese border troops have been patrolling and on duty in this region," Zhao said alleging that since April this year, the Indian border troops have unilaterally and continuously built roads, bridges and other facilities at the LAC in the Galwan Valley.

China has lodged representations and protests on multiple occasions but India has gone even further to cross the LAC and make provocations, Zhao said.

By the early morning of May 6, the Indian border troops, who had crossed the LAC by night and trespassed into China's territory, built fortification and barricades, which impeded the patrol of Chinese border troops, Zhao said adding that they deliberately made provocations in an attempt to unilaterally change the status quo of control and management.

The Chinese border troops, he said, were "forced to take necessary measures to respond to the situation on the ground and strengthen management and control in the border areas."

In order to ease the situation, China and India have stayed in close communication through military and diplomatic channels, he said. "In response to the strong demand of the Chinese side, India agreed to withdraw the personnel who crossed the LAC and demolish the facilities, and so they did.

On June 6, the border troops of both countries held a commander-level meeting and reached consensus on easing the situation. The Indian side, he said, promised that they would not cross the estuary of the Galwan river to patrol and build facilities and the two sides would discuss and decide phased withdrawal of troops through the meetings between commanders on the ground.

"Shockingly, on the evening of June 15, India's front-line troops, in violation of the agreement reached at the commander-level meeting, once again crossed the Line of Actual Control for deliberate provocation when the situation in the Galwan Valley was already easing, and even violently attacked the Chinese officers and soldiers who went there for negotiation, thus triggering fierce physical conflicts and causing casualties."

"The adventurous acts of the Indian army have seriously undermined the stability of the border areas, threatened the lives of Chinese personnel, violated the agreements reached between the two countries on the border issue, and breached the basic norms governing international relations," the spokesperson said.

Beijing, he said, hopes that India will work with China, follow faithfully the important consensus reached between the two leaders, abide by the agreements reached between the two governments, and strengthen communication and coordination on properly managing the current situation through diplomatic and military channels, and jointly uphold peace and stability in the border areas.

A bold PM will say the truth and not keep their countrymen in darkness. If Chinese have occupied our territory, give military a free hand, they will get it back. I trust Indian Army is very strong and can do that job. PM must stop politics.

    His latest concerns:
New Delhi, Jun 20 (IANS): Village, villagers and migrants - the tone of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the launch of Rs 50,000 cr Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan Yojna - a rural mega job scheme targeted at returnee migrant workers was loud and clear.

Hailing the role played by villages in successfully containing the spread of coronavirus, the Prime minister acknowledged, "India is a country with more than 6 lakh villages, where more than two-thirds of its population, which is about 80-85 crore people, lives. The rural India has effectively prevented the spread of infection. This population is even more than that of all the countries of Europe." (Read entire article elsewhere in Daiji World)

Galwan valley appears to be 60 square kilometers area, until relatively recently Indian-held.

    But now China claims it.

So Chinese soldiers would have moved into the area. "Preplanned" says the Indian minister.

When the Indian soldiers walked in, they were surrounded by the Chinese soldiers...

...and at least 20 were murdered. Many more suffered critical injuries.

The Gujju-bhai says not an inch of Indian territory has gone to China.

while chinese totally tight lipped on whole issue, death of their soldier ..our political parties, national media daily into creating new new controversies and giving escape route to known bully China..China have problem with Japan, south koria, mangolia, indonesia, philippines so on..they by force taken several islands, turmenistan/mangolia land, indian land , japan island, Tibet..now eyeing TIWAN..they are using close freinds pakistan, north korea to irritate its opponents. but our political parties, national medias always show us in bad light just for internal politics which is damaging our national security, endangering soldiers life & world image.. Govt , forces clearly said there is no incursion, but chinese coming very close to LAC in no mans land they are erecting structures which they shouldnt do & efects our movement ..when our men stopped it, fight started..so where is the controversy on PM statement!

Even though China may be stronger overall, I believe that my country can give a tough fight to China .I am proud that India is the only country now that has guts to question China , it has bullied all small neighboring countries and made its way for a long time ,. If a war breaks out , wound china so bad that many others countries will get the courage and fight them .

.. as I commented earlier, rouge expansionist China has the habit of claiming/grabbing land/sea area across all its neighbors. Now it is saying Galwan valley is it’s territory. They will produce some fake historical documents to claim it. The chinks mentality is such that the area where their Kings walked in the past is their territory !!!

PM Modi is contradicting his own army top brass and external affairs minister. There will be a domestic political price to pay no matter how they try and spin it. So there must have been a bigger price to be paid to justify this utterly pathetic climb down.
Every single map with the Army in Ladakh shows the LAC passing through Finger 8 at Pangong Tso. The Chinese are sitting eight kms to the west of it, have made bunkers and posts. So whose territory is it that they are in?
Does Modi's statement signal India is willing to live with China's forcible change of the status quo in the Galwan Valley and at Lake Pangong? By occupying unoccupied areas, China has put a halt to India's patrolling of those areas and built positions overlooking Indian defenses.
1)Is Modi saying that the External Affairs Ministry statement about Chinese trying to build a structure on the Indian side of the LAC is false?
    2) Does the PM mean all land where Chinese troops are at present is their territory ?
    3) Did our soldiers die on Indian territory or Chinese territory?
    4) Why did MEA say that China had tried to "erect a structure" in Galwan on our side of LAC, hindered patrolling etc?
5)Do the Chinese currently hold land that was previously patrolled by Indian troops?
6)If there was no intrusion why are 20 soldiers dead?
7)Did the Indian soldiers have firearms?
8)Did the political and military leadership miss intelligence alerts?

Does the prime minister's assertion mean the MEA was wrong to accuse the PLA of crossing the LAC and trying to alter the status quo? In turn, does this mean that India has now handed over the Galwan valley and estuary to the Chinese?
