China finally admits it lost 'less than 20' soldiers in clash with India

New Delhi, Jun 22 (IANS): A day after Indian media reported that India had handed over dead bodies of 16 Chinese soldiers to the People's Liberation Army (PLA), China on Monday for the first time admitted that it lost "less than 20" troops during the violent face-off along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh last week.

Until now, even as New Delhi had officially announced that 20 of its soldiers were killed in a clash with the PLA in Ladakh's Galwan valley, Beijing had remained tight-lipped about its casualties.

The Global Times, the mouthpiece of the Chinese Community Party regime in Beijing, in a piece quoting "Chinese experts" on Monday said that "the reason why China did not release the number" of its casualties, is that China "wants to avoid an escalation."

"If China released the number which is less than 20, the Indian government would again come under pressure," the Global Times tweeted quoting an "observer" from the piece.

The Chinese "analysts" and "observers" also accused Indian officials of placating nationalists by "making speculations on China's casualties to satisfy Indian hardliners, such as speculating that China lost more soldiers than India."

The Global Times report referred to Union minister and former Army Chief Gen. V.K. Singh who on Saturday had claimed that the number of PLA soldiers killed in the stand-off in the Galwan valley was more than 40.

The analysts in Beijing also threatened India saying, "India will be more humiliated than after the 1962 border conflict with China if it cannot control anti-China sentiment at home and has a new military conflict with its biggest neighbour."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as per the observers, "is trying to respond to the nationalists and hardliners with tough talk, but he understands his country cannot have further conflict with China so he is also making an effort to cool tensions."

Quoting Chinese military observers, the Global Times said, that "an escalated, large-scale military conflict involving main Chinese troops, if that were to happen, would mean all out war just like the war in 1962, with very disproportionate casualty figures unfavourable to India."

    Anantha,

In your perception, what is the number of casualty ? Two parties go and throw stones at a tree and count which party got more fruits ?? Don't you have any value for the life shed by a soldier ? His grieving parents, widowed wife, orphaned children ?? You go by the number and celebrate ??

Did you know that our soldiers were bound by official order not to carry weapons ?? Who gave this order ?? Rajnath ? Shah ?? Modi ?? Nadda ?? At the same time, the Chinese were already there ARMED ?? Protocol applies only to Indians ??

Upon all of that, the PM says there wasn't infiltration ?? Whom are you fooling ??

    Hmmm... ???

Whatever may be the body count from both sides, for India it has lost more than 60 square kilometre of the 'Galwan valley' and Pasaong lake were Bollywood movie three idiot has been shot.

The PM Modi's no incursion statement no defines China's new position as status quo, that make Karakorum highway and Airstrip within 12 kilo meters of the Chinese range. That in turn make India's forward supply line to 'Siachin' off limit.
If BJP's central government is serious about India's national integrity, it should terminate all the major contract from defense, telecommunication and infrastructure.
It is time government correct the foreign policy. The too much dependency on America has certainly pushed India into proxy war and the greatest ally like Russia which stood with India is proving costing the nation.
To gain the trust of citizens of India, the government should call open press briefing in neutral avenue represented by unbiased national and unbiased media and answer the questions to clear the doubts.
It must stop bullying the nation with more lies.

If China says less than 20 means you should guess that it would double of the numbers or there is none and just to fool the International media they accepted the number of dead soldiers to get sympathy. These chinkies can manipulate anything hence no questions asked to the rulers. So if we want to believe our Govt. reports or from our Military

    Modiji,

Please train Indian soldiers who Patrol Chinese border with Kusti / Wrestling / Judo please ( Pant and Shirt uniform does not suit for this type of Warfare , I would suggest Shorts without Shirts like Professional Wrestlers)....

Also provide some swords and Arrows like they carried during 'Mahabharath' ....

Since both China and India agreed not to carry Firearms in the border this is a MUST Modiji...

My guess is Chinese already taught these techniques to their Soldiers in advance ...so their CASUALTIES less than ours....may be in teens between 13-19....

Waiting for Hats Satellite Image Verification from 'Web Research'....

Langa, I very well remember what I typed. I just pointed out the discrepancy between what PM said and what MEA said. While PM said that there were no incursion to our side, MEA said 'clashes occurred while Chinese were erecting structure on our side of Dalwan' chck Indian express 18th June:

    SB,

You need to put the facts right. Building of 4000 kms of road started in 1999 and was supposed to be completed by 2012. This project is delayed and the work is going on and additional funds released. Around 50% of the road building has been completed since 1999. As any other Bhakt, don't twist the facts and say that roads are only built now.

So it is ongoing process. Reason for Chinese aggression is the weak foreign policy where our relation with neighbouring countries have gone sour. China sees opportunity in this and hence went on with this misadventure.

As RaGa said ' Look at the world NOT from your position , but look at the world from YOUR position'. The effort of every Govt is to maintain a good relationship with neighbours. What can one do if there is back stabbing. Next in line is Nepal , who was living on our crumbs and help till last year.
One thing you have to appreciate is India response is apt and teaching the enemies a good lesson.
When Mumbai was attacked in 2008 , The PM MMS only did Khadi Ninda on TV and said 'hum cricket nahin khelenge'. In fact the ruling Cong was more worried about their vote bank if the matter escalated.
