COVID-19 death toll rises to 17 in Odisha


Bhubaneswar, Jun 23 (IANS): Odisha's COVID-19 death toll increased to 17 with two more deaths reported on Tuesday, the health department said.

The two death cases-an 80-year old male and 71-year old male-were reported from Cuttack district.

"Regret to report demise of two Covid positive cases of Cuttack while under treatment in hospital. One was a 71-year old Male who was also suffering from infected diabetic foot, diabetes and chronic kidney disease," tweeted the department.

An 80-year old Covid positive Male of Cuttack passed away in hospital due to intestinal obstruction with sepsis and multi organ dysfunction syndrome, it said.

Odisha reported 167 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 5,470.

Among the fresh cases, 150 are detected from quarantine and 17 are cases of local contact.

While, the active cases are 1,583, the recoveries are 3,863.
