Cong to launch nationwide protest against fuel price hike

New Delhi, Jun 23 (IANS): The Congress Working Committee has decided to launch a nationwide protest against the fuel price hike, which is at a record high currently. The party is working out modalities of protest while following health protocol.

K.C. Venugopal, General Secretary (Organisation) said, "The government has raised fuel price continuously for 17 days in a row which caused hardship to the citizens of the country"

Earlier in the day in the CWC meet Congress President said, "The government has added insult to injury by mercilessly raising petrol and diesel prices for 17 consecutive days, at a time when world prices of crude have fallen."

On Tuesday, the oil companies raised the prices of petrol by 20 paise per litre and that of diesel by 55 paise per litre. On Monday, prices were hiked by 33 paise and 58 paise per litre respectively.

Diesel is currently priced at Rs 79.40 a litre in the Capital, just 36 paise short of petrol price that is being retailed at Rs 79.76 a litre. Going by the trend of price movement in the two products for the last few days where diesel prices have consistently increased by 50-60 paise per litre while the daily increase in petrol prices have fallen to just 20 paise on Tuesday, it is set to surpass petrol prices in next few days.

Currently, the Central excise on petrol is Rs 32.98 a litre while that on diesel it is Rs 31.83 a litre. The VAT on petrol in Delhi is Rs 17.71 a litre and that on diesel is Rs 17.60 a litre.

The modi Govt is indulging in daylight robbery of the poor and common man since 2014 by the
high petrol and fuel prices. we need a PM who talks less and work more. During Manmohan
singh period petrol was made available at Rs.68/- when crude was at the highest of US 106.
but now it is at the lowest of 32 dollars and we are paying the highest price since modi govt
is pocketing all the benefits of crude crash.

If Congress is serious about the nation, then the fuel prices protest should be smarter and more intense than fake anti-corruption crusade Anna Hazare and his clique.

The party should use his IT cell wisely and quote the below Twitter thread of Modi.
"Massive hike in #petrol prices is a prime example of the failure of Congress-led UPA. This will put a burden of hundreds of crores on Guj."-7:54 AM · May 23, 2012

Then it should create post in all social media with BJP leaders protest at the time UPA II and educated the citizens of India how the party managed to keep the price of Petrol and Diesel despite the Crude oil reached its peak.

It should also print daily price list Petrol and Diesel of entire South East Asia and share with questionnaire to the government.

Lastly, Congress should use economic advisors and publish the report how the prices can be slashed.
At the same time it should educate the common man of India, how the fuel multiple taxation is affecting the retail and transport sector.

The party should demand the fuel to brought under GST.

Stage a Bharat Bandh - people have had enough practice rehearsals during the lockdown. Take Madam Smriti along - ask her to come with her empty gas-cylinder for another good photo-op. Invite Modi too - he hated fuel price increases during Opposition days.

This is unprecedented that the diesel price is more than the price of petrol. Taxes/duties are more than 270% of the basic price is unheard of. Now the international market prices are reduced so much that the same needs to be passed on to the people.

Not only Congress but all affected people need to protest. During UPA we have seen how the ruling party people were dancing on the streets whenever there was price increase.

Compare the international oil price during UPA period and now, and see how the government is cheating the people. Modi says he works for the people but surely not this way.

The Congress leaders and supporters of DK/Mlore should make this protest a grand success. All leaders and supporters , young and old , past and present should come on to the streets. We had around 5lac voters for Congress in 2019, so for sure the numbers will be more this time. The participants should indulge in aggressive campaigning . All the issues should be brought out not only fuel price hike. Moral policing, China, Pakistan, Nepal, even local issues too should be highlighted. People of neighboring states should also be invited to participate. Guys !! we have a good chance to prove ourselves. Its now or never!

Finally Kumbakarna woke up after lots of calls from last 6 years. At last congress got some relevant point to do a nation wide strike. That too in this financial crisis time, a strike will be fatal. Do strike and again sleep like kubhakarna for next 9 years. 😂

Even though the nation's economy is decimated, challenge was to get Mukesh Bhai back into the exclusive club of world's top 10 richest and at 64.4 billion $ net worth, he bounced back with a bang. Of course, it's attributed conveniently to Jio, but the largest ever refining margin does make a difference.

Hike in fuel price is the source of hike in price for all goods. This will raise inflation and curb the economy and businesses. No wonder China is praising Modi for selling the country that is why Modi is not saying about Chinese annexation. Our poor soldiers have sacrifice thier lives for BJP's pleasure.

During congress rule the fuel prices were going up worldwide at the same time Indian economy was also booming so it had no effect on ordinary people's lives. In fact India's GDP was the highest compared to rest of the world so all MNC were pouring into India to do business unlike now with your BJP govt all messed up policies and directionless ideas.
