Diesel price rises for 19th day, remains higher than petrol in Delhi

New Delhi, Jun 25 (IANS): Transport fuel diesel prices continued its roll on Thursday, surpassing Rs 80 per litre mark in Delhi with oil marketing companies raising its prices on the 19th consecutive day.

Diesel is now priced at Rs 80.03 per litre in the Capital, higher by 14 paise over its Wednesday price when it surpassed the pump price of petrol in Delhi for the first time ever. The fuel price remained higher than petrol by 10 paise even on Thursday.

Along with diesel, petrol prices have also risen, a tad higher at 16 paise taking its pump price in Delhi to Rs 79.92 a litre.

The good news is that the quantum of fuel price increase has fallen for the last couple of days from a high of 60 paise per day to less than 20 paise on Thursday.

If the price of petroleum products and crude continue its recent slide in the global markets, then petrol and diesel prices can actually start falling soon.

The Thursday's fuel price hike is the 19th consecutive day of revision of pump prices. Only on Wednesday, petrol price was not increased by the OMCs.

Fuel prices have been increasing since June 7 when oil companies began the daily price revision mechanism after a hiatus of 83 days during the lockdown.

Prices of transportation fuel were last revised under the dynamic pricing policy on March 16 and there were few instances of price hike later only when the respective state governments hiked VAT or cess.

Late PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee once arrived at the Parliament House on a bullock cart in 1973 to protest against the hike in petrol and kerosene prices by Congress government.

When Modi was Gujarat Chief Minister he twitted "Massive hike in #petrol prices is a prime example of the failure of Congress-led UPA. This will put a burden of hundreds of crores on Guj."-7:54 AM · May 23, 2012·

Today those BJP leaders protesting on street with empty gas canister are missing when the Petrol and Diesel prices in India is competing with 'Gold'.

Fuel prices have been Modi govt’s go-to cash cow after massive 'beef export' trade. Compared to UPA, the NDA government has collected more taxes on fuel, mostly by hiking excise duty, as seen recently. To date no one knows were the 20 lakh crores has been gone and there is still short budget deficit.
Fuel is most expensive commodity in India than neighboring countries like China, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka and entire South East Asia. Perhaps PM Modi's BJP central government is the only country in the world has increased the prices when the crude oil is negative trend.

At the same time Indian government exports petrol at half the price we pay the RTI reply on exports claims that India is exporting refined petrol to 15 nations at Rs 34 per litre while refined diesel is exported to 29 countries at Rs 37 per litre as per the information provided.

    1. Why we Indians are not benefited the low crude oil prices?
    2. Why the Fuel prices are not brought under the GST with single taxation?
    3. Where is more 20 lakh crores in taxation collected vanished?
    4. On what basis oil companies are revising prices when the crude oil price lower than the total taxation per liter?
    5. Why the government and oil companies not giving the break down prices of every liter of fuel price sold in retail market?
