Increase presence in crime-prone areas, LG tells Delhi Police


New Delhi, Jun 25 (IANS): Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday instructed Delhi Police to increase its presence in crime-prone areas for deterrent measures to ensure a crime-free capital.

Baijal gave direction to the senior officers of around 85,000 strong force while taking a review of law and order situation in Delhi.

"Reviewed law and order situation in Delhi. Directed Delhi Police to increase presence in crime prone areas and use deterrent measures to curb various street crimes," he said in a tweet.

The LG also instructed the police for maintaining strict vigil at state borders and maintaining close coordination with central agencies and neighbouring states to prepare for Independence Day.

In subsequent tweets, Baijal also told the Delhi Police to take steps to increase prosecution and conviction rates to ensure law and order in the national capital which registered a sudden spike in street crimes after the opening of countrywide lockdown.
