CBI starts enquiry into land grab by J&K Minister's trust

Jammu, Jun 25 (IANS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has started preliminary enquiry into allegations of land grab and corruption by an education trust, run by former J&K Minister Chowdhary Lal Singh.

It's alleged that Singh used his official position to get the Forest Department land transferred to an education trust run by him in the Kathua district. Also, false information was submitted to the High Court on June 9, 2015 vide an affidavit filed in a public interest litigation to favour this trust.

According to sources, the CBI probe is in the nature of a preliminary enquiry, which is carried out to ascertain whether an FIR should be registered to book the accused. "If the preliminary enquiry establishes a prima facie case then an FIR will follow," sources said.

Singh had quit the cabinet after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took exception to his stand over a controversy involving rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in Hira Nagar area of the Kathua district.

Singh also quit the BJP and formed a party -- the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan -- last year.
