Lucknow, Jun 26 (IANS): Samajwadi Party (SP) workers were lathi charged by the Lucknow Police on Friday while they were protesting against the increase in petrol prices outside the Vidhan Sabha.
The prices of fuel have been rising in India for the past 20 days after oil marketing companies (OMCs) started daily revision since June 7.
Over a dozen of SP workers, including members of the youth wing, had gathered outside the UP assembly on Friday with placards to protest over the hike in fuel prices.
Some of the workers, who were heard raising slogans against the BJP and central government, were also detained by the cops.
The cops resorted to lathi charge as sloganeering increased.
Earlier, on Thursday, UP Congress Committee chief (UPCC) Ajay Lallu along with party workers had also protested against the government over the rise in prices of petrol and diesel.
