Man thrashed by wife in Salt Lake, video goes viral on social media


Kolkata, Jun 28 (IANS): In a shocking incident of domestic violence, a man was seen being brutally beaten up by his wife at their Salt Lake residence, located on the eastern fringes of Kolkata. The video footage was caught on a web camera of the man's laptop that went viral on the social media on Sunday.

The incident took place at Salt Lake BD Block under Bidhannagar (North) police station area in Kolkata's posh satellite township when Deep Majumder, 33, was seen being beaten up by his wife Debjani Sanyal. The duo got married about five years ago and the couple has no issue.

According to police sources, Majumder claimed that he had been suffering from domestic violence for the past four years.

The video footage shows the man being mercilessly slapped, beaten up black and blue and his arms being twisted by his wife, Debjani.

"The man has claimed that he was physically assaulted by his wife on several occasions. His parents were also abused. He has lodged a complaint with the police alleging inhuman torture at the hands of his wife. We are investigating into the matter now," an officer of Bidhannagar (North) police station told IANS.

The officer said that all the possible angles are now being looked into during the course of investigation.
